What are the “W”s and a “H”? Who? What? When? Where? Why? And How? Why should we organize the main points of the text and/or story into a logical outline? This will help us to identify the pattern of the thought processes of the author and the big ideal of the text.
Step two: What does Interpretation ask about the passage? It wants to know what the passage means. How does this step relate to step1? The previously observed main points (details) are analyzed to discover the point which the author was trying to make. What must be studied? What must be done if some of the information does not fit naturally with the explanation of the passage? The interpretation needs revision. . What is Hermeneutics? It is the science of determining the correct rules to follow when interpreting the Bible. Why should we use Hermeneutics? Correctly followed, we will not distort or twist the scriptures to support our biases. It will help us to overcome barriers in our understanding.

The verse division is a blessing because it makes it easy to find passages The verse division is a curse because people treat each verse as an independent unit of thought. What is the problem with treating each verse as an independent unit of thought? Trying to understand the verse apart from its paragraph makes it easy to insert one’s own ideas in error. What the author meant by a verse is clear only when it is explained consistently with the main ideal of its paragraph.

Consider the flow of the biblical content:
Understanding the meaning of key words:
Follow the force of grammar:
View from historical perspective:
Integrate with other biblical teaching on the subject:
